TinTin, The Complete Guide

TinTin is a comic character that is loved the world over, but not known widely yet in the US. Created by Belgian artist, Herge in the early 20th century, the adventures of TinTin and his interesting cast of fellow characters have been presented in comic strips, in comic books, collections, animated series, and is coming soon in a Steven Spielberg movie as well! Introduction

Belgian artist Georges Remi (1907–1983), who wrote under the pen name of Hergé, created the immensely popular comic series titled "The Adventures of TinTin".

The series first appeared in French in 1929. The series was so successful that it was then collected into a series of twenty-four albums, spun into a successful magazine and adapted for film and theatre. This series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century. It has been translated into more than 50 languages and more than 200 million copies sold.

The hero of the series is TinTin, a young Belgian reporter, who is aided in his adventures by his faithful dog, Snowy, a fox terrier. The comic series is known for many things:

Its clean, expressive drawings
Plots that are very engaging, and very well-researched
The adventures that have elements of fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, and science fiction
A simple undercurrent of slapstick humor
Political satire and cultural and political commentary

These stories by Beligan artist Herge, involve a young reporter who travels to far-off lands on audacious adventures, often with crazy but lovable characters. Movies

While extraordinarily popular all over the world, TinTin isn't known, read or followed in the US, except by a small minority of people. But this is all about to change in a BIG way soon.

Steven Spielberg is directing the first TinTin movie for American, and other Hollywood movie audiences worldwide. It is called "The Adventures of TinTin: The Secret of the Unicorn". This is slated to release in 2011.

With that pending movie event, TinTin is poised to win the hearts of children of all ages in the US soon.
