Skyline Chili

Guide Collapse this Section
Skyline Chili is a chain of chili restaurants based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1949 by Greek immigrant Nicholas Lambrinides, Skyline Chili is named for the view of Cincinnati's skyline that Lambrinides could see from his first restaurant (which has since been demolished), opened in the section of town now known as Price Hill. It is also the "official chili" of many local professional sports teams and venues

History of Skyline

Collapse this Section
From a small kitchen in the village of Kastoria, Greece, a fascinated young Nicholas Lambrinides watched as his mother and grandmother prepared authentic Greek dishes. Their recipes had been passed down from generation to generation.
Nicholas dreamed that one day he would bring these recipes and traditions to America, where he could share them with friends and family. In 1949, his dream came true when Nicholas opened his first restaurant overlooking the skyline of Cincinnati, Ohio and began serving his delicious secret recipes to appreciative customers.
Since then, Skyline Chili's Coneys, Ways and table-side service have
been enjoyed by generations. Our Chili continues to be made from Nicholas's original recipe, using a secret blend of spices and only
the highest quality ingredients.Skyline is dedicated to bringing
friends and families together for an experience like no other and
we will always be devoted to the American dream of that young
man from a small village in Greece.

Advertising through "Word of Mouth"

Collapse this Section
Since Skyline has become a Cincinnati tradition a lot of their advertising and marketing is done for them through "word of mouth." When a customer likes a product they are going to tell others about it. This is how Skyline has built up such a strong reputation and strong brand loyalty

I thought that was pretty cool to see the original logo along with what the logo would have looked like if they took the picture of Cincinnati's skyline today.

I think is is amazing how the "My Girl" jingle really took skylines advertising to that next level. Do you think they will change to a new jingle in the future to keep intrest going?
Laura Becker (4 months ago)
I think that right now it is such a strong jingle, and everyone can sing along with it, that they will keep it for awhile.

I love Skyline! It was nice to see our presenter from Sunrise give us a different view as well as your presentation. I wonder why Jim's agency is not referenced anywhere in here though. I would think he would be easy access to your group, and certainly worth a mention. There's still time. I don't mean to be critical. It's all constructive. I did like your presentation. You guys did a great job. I learned about how huge they are in the community. That's big for sure.
Laura Becker (4 months ago)
Yeah we are planning on it. We tried contacting him, he has not responded to us yet.

Even though I am from Columbus and there are Skylines, I had no idea it was that popular. I did not get a chance to grow up with eating Skyline, but the current generation may have that advantage. What would you recommend for Skyline's advertising to be stronger in Columbus? Where else should Skyline expand to in terms of location?
Chas Locey (4 months ago)
I really liked being able to see the progression of the ads and all the different places that Skyline advertises and promotions.
Elizabeth Capannari (4 months ago)
Were you able to find out how they choose "My girl" for all of their advertising?

It is nice to know that Skyline is involved with community sponsorships. This way, Skyline is able to give back while generating a positive attitude in the communities they help.

I really enjoyed this assignment which allowed me to learn more about what Skyline does for their restaurants as well as in the community. It was also nice to hear what Sunrise Advertising does with Skyline in comparison.

The "Word of Mouth" section was a cool idea to have, and it's great how you show how involved Skyline is within the community.

i liked learning about the various event/things Skyline is a sponsor for. Like the Crosstown shootout, Reds, Kings Island. Im not from around here so I enjoy any chance I get to learn about the famous Skyline Chili. This page definitely was very helpful to me.

I thought the original logo was a great touch, and all the videos are really great picks.

Having both the guest speaker and your presentation definately gave me a better idea of Skyline's direction when it comes to advertising. I have lived in Cincinnati all my life and have eaten Skyline all of my life, so it is nice to know more about local businesses like this one.
Cameron Kowalski (4 months ago)
I think it's great that Skyline has become such a trademark for Cincinnati and the information provided here really shows why. What Skyline does for the community is awesome from the crosstown shootout to Reds games.
