Daron Rahlves

Daron Louis Rahlves (born June 12, 1973, in Walnut Creek, California) is a former alpine ski racer with the U.S. Ski Team, widely regarded as the most successful American speed racer of all time. Raised in northern California, he attended the Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont and currently resides in Truckee, California. He retired from World Cup racing at the end of the 2006 season with 12 World Cup victories and a world championship.

Daron has yet to compete in an Olympic Ski Cross event and the 2010 Vancouver Olympics will be the debut of Ski Cross as an Olympic sport.

In the most easily identifiable Olympic terms, ski cross is the Alpine skier's answer to snowboard cross, the unpredictable, head-to-head racing event that made its Olympic debut at the 2006 Torino Games. If you prefer a more vivid description, American Darn Rahlves has described it as "Motocross on skis with a little NASCAR and bull riding all thrown in there." Others might simply choose to call it an exercise in mayhem.

Daron won 12 World Cup races, had 28 World Cup podiums, 7 US National Titles, is the 2001 World Champion in Super G, Silver medal at the 2005 Worlds in DH and Bronze medal in GS. He was the winner of the legendary Hahnenkamm Downhill in 2003 and SG in 2004 along with 7 podium finishes in Kitzbuhel over 5 years. Now ski cross is the competition of his choice. In 2008 Daron took the win in Skier X at Winter X Games 12 and finished 3rd overall on the Jeep Skiing/48 Straight Tour.
